Feminism: Perspectives, Questions & Islamic Understanding

This seminar at Islamic Center Information Hub does not begin with insults and does not end with slogans. We set out, in order, what major feminist claims are saying about law, the body, the family, and work — and then read the Qur’an and Sunnah on a woman’s dignity, inheritance, education, consent in nikah, and protection from zulm.

Sisters and female students are given space to ask what they hear in college, on Instagram, and at home: Is hijab oppression? Is a housewife “less”? What about domestic violence? What about a girl who wants both a degree and a Muslim marriage? Male students sit in a separate or mixed session as announced, with the same texts and a stricter adab of speech.

The Center’s position is consistent with our wider work on haya, hijab, and girls’ education: Islam honours women; culture sometimes does not. This sitting in Firozabad exists so that honour is argued from wahy, not from borrowed anger or borrowed fashion. It remains a study, not a debate-show.
